Kabuki Dancer Window

I adapted the design for the Kabuki Dancer from a wood block print by artist Kiyonaga created in 1789.  The print is depicting a famous dance in the Kabuki performance based upon a No play written by Ze-ami, in which the spirit of the lion dances madly.

The details of the face and the fabric designs are all painted and then fused to the glass by firing to 1050 degrees.  The paint is actually glass that is crushed to a powder form.  I then assembled the window using the copper foil technique which gives more freedom in working smaller details and irregular lines.
